چکیده
We present the results of X-ray and near-infrared (NIR) observations of L1448, a star-forming region in the Perseus cloud complex using the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the 4 m telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. We detect 72 X-ray sources in a ∼17 ′ ×17 ′ region with a ∼68 ks ACIS exposure, for which we conduct follow-up NIR imaging observations in a concentric ∼11 ′ ×11 ′ region with FLAMINGOS down to m KS ∼ 17 mag. Twelve X-ray sources have NIR or optical counterparts. By plotting X-ray mean energy versus NIR to X-ray flux ratio, the X-ray sources are clearly separated into two groups. The X-ray spectral and temporal features as well as NIR magnitudes and colors indicate that one group mainly consists of young stellar objects (YSOs) in the cloud and the other of background extragalactic sources. Ten X-ray-emitting YSO candidates are thus newly identified, which are low-mass or brown dwarf mass sources from their NIR magnitudes. In addition, a possible X-ray signal is found from a mid-infrared protostar L1448 IRS 3(A). The lack of detection of this source in our deep NIR images indicates that this source has a very steep spectral slope of 3.2 in 2–10 µm.

Archival Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field/Planetary Camera 2 observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud serendipitously reveal a possible counterpart to the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar CXOU J010043.1−721134. The candidate is faint, but its location and strange colours make it an interesting object. We estimate , that the probability of such a detection being due to a non-physical source is less tha...

Multi-colour (JHKS) imaging and photometry of the field of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar AXP 1E 1841−045 is analysed in the light of new, accurate coordinates from Chandra (Wachter et al, 2004). From excellent quality images, we find multiple sources in and around the position error circle. Of these, none can be confidently identified as the infrared counterpart. The limiting magnitudes reached we...

We conducted deep near-infrared (NIR) imaging observations of the Orion molecular cloud 2 and 3 using Quick Infrared Camera on the 88-inch telescope of the University of Hawaii. Our purposes are 1) to generate a comprehensive NIR source catalog of these star forming clouds, and 2) to identify the NIR counterpart of the Chandra X-ray sources that have no counterpart in the Two Micron All Sky Sur...

A comparative XMM-Newton archival data spectral study of the ultraluminous Xray source (ULX) M33 X-8 has been performed by using both the standard disk model and the newly developed slim disk models. The results of this analysis tend to confirm the hypothesis that M33 X-8 is an X-ray binary with a stellar-mass black hole accreting at super-Eddington rate.

We present spectroscopy of the optical counterpart to 1RXS J162848.1-41524, also known as the microquasar candidate MCQC J162847-4152. All the data indicate that this X-ray source is not a microquasar, and that it is a singlelined chromospherically active binary system with a likely orbital period of 4.9 days. Our analysis supports a K3IV spectral classification for the star, which is dominant ...
